Cloudy Bay was founded in 1985 in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, by David Hohnen. At that time, the Marlborough region was not yet known as a leading wine producer. However, Hohnen saw tremendous potential there to produce high-quality wines, especially Sauvignon Blanc. He believes the cool climate and fertile soil will produce special wines.
In 1985, Cloudy Bay launched its first Sauvignon Blanc, which immediately captured the attention of the wine world with its uniqueness and exceptional quality. Since then, Cloudy Bay has been a pioneer in the New Zealand Wine industry and helped popularize Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough throughout the world. The consistent quality of their wines, characterized by tropical fruit aromas and seductive freshness, has made Cloudy Bay one of the most respected and internationally recognized wine brands.
